Beaches Energy Services offers special services to customers with certain physical needs.

Medical Support Notification Program

Customers who depend on life saving specialized electrical medical equipment like oxygen machines can register to be notified if a scheduled service outage is expected to last an extended period of time. We will do everything to restore service as quickly as possible. Customers who require medically essential service are solely responsible for any backup equipment or power supply and a planned course of action in the event of a power outage or interruption of service. Hurricane Watch - When a hurricane may threaten coastal and inland areas within the next 48 hours.

What you should do during a Hurricane Watch

  • Monitor the radio and TV. Listen for weather reports and emergency announcements.
  • Review your evacuation plan.
  • Fuel the car/truck. Be sure you have a full tank of gasoline.
  • Make preparations to moor, anchor, or store your boat.
  • Check your disaster kit. Put items together in one place for easy access.
  • Refresh disaster kit supplies such as batteries, water, and food. Stock up on nonperishable food items and sanitation supplies.
  • Gather valuables. Place valuables and important papers in waterproof containers.
  • Check that you have adequate baby supplies, prescriptions, special medicines or foods, etc., on hand.
  • Check cash on hand. Get extra money in case electronic banking is unavailable.
  • Secure outdoor items. Store inside or secure all lawn furniture, garbage cans, toys, etc., which could become deadly missiles in high winds.
  • Locate the main turnoffs for electricity, water, and gas.
  • Install hurricane shutters or plywood on windows and doors.
  • Make arrangements for your pets/animals to be taken care of. 

 

Hurricane Warning - When a hurricane is expected to strike within 36 hours. The warning will include an assessment of flood danger and recommended emergency procedures.

What you should do during a Hurricane Warning

  • Follow official instructions. Listen for weather reports and emergency announcements on TV and radio.
  • If you do not have a car, arrange ahead of time for transportation should you have to evacuate.
  • Secure the house.
  • Turn refrigerators/freezers to coldest settings.
  • Bring in outside furniture, lower TV antenna, clear property of all loose objects
  • Turn off electricity to pool, and add extra chlorine.
  • Cover windows and other openings with plywood or hurricane shutters.
  • Load car. Put disaster kit, records, valuables, important papers into your vehicle.
  • Be prepared to evacuate. Gather your family.
  • Before you evacuate: turn off electricity, gas and water service to your house.
  • If ordered to evacuate, obey immediately. Take your hurricane evacuation kit.
  • Let friends and neighbors know where you are going.

 

What to include in your Portable Disaster Kit

  • Food - nonperishable
  • Water - one gallon of drinking water a day for each person, for a minimum of 4 days
  • Eating and cooking utensils (such as can opener, knife)
  • Toilet articles and sanitary supplies
  • Medication - prescriptions (two-week supply)
  • First aid kit
  • Portable radio, TV
  • Flashlight, batteries, candles
  • Bedding - such as sleeping bags, blankets, pillows
  • Clothing
  • Portable ice chest
  • Lightweight chairs/cots
  • Personal items, including books and toys. Important papers, valid I.D.
