Beaches Energy In the Community: Monster Detective Collective

At Beaches Energy, community engagement programs help us connect with our neighbors and share ways to save money on utilities. After all, energy-saving habits start with energy-saving learning from an early age.

This year, Beaches Energy Utility Auditing and Conservation Lead, Ty Glynn, is leading the community engagement efforts by hosting interactive learning experiences to help build energy-saving habits for their families and their future with the Monster Detective Collective program. It’s just one of the ways Beaches Energy is engaging and educating the community on positive energy use habits. 

The Monster Detective Collective is an award-winning learning adventure that uses iconic characters to teach participants about energy and how they interact with energy every day. They learn about the six primary sources of energy: wind, water, natural gas, solar, nuclear, and coal. Then, the characters illustrate how energy is transferred to the home. Insights and facts are backed up with fun animations to create a perfect visual for kids to see where their power comes from.

The detective work continues by exploring room by room, appliance by appliance to uncover how much energy is used by common household items. This investigation also helps participants understand how to conserve energy and how to help their families save on their bill.

Any detective (monster or human) will tell you—it’s never too early (or too late) to learn energy-saving habits! With the Monster Detective Collective, communities are learning practical ways to save energy, from washing full loads of laundry on cold to setting the thermostat to the right temperature for each season and so much more.
